Moving & Storage
Tips

With over a decade of real moving experience, we know that most moving challenges can be avoided with proper planning. Well-organized arrangements made ahead of time help reduce delays, control costs, and ensure a smoother moving and storage process. The tips below are based on what we’ve seen work best across residential, commercial, and storage moves.

Tips for
Residential Moving

Even though our team provides professional furniture disassembly and reassembly services, we often recommend that customers dismantle smaller, manageable furniture items in advance whenever possible. This simple preparation can significantly reduce on-site moving time and help keep overall costs under control.

For multi-level houses, gathering movable furniture on the same floor as the main exit before moving day can further improve efficiency and reduce costs.

Oversized or non-disassemble heavy items — such as appliances, are typically handled by our professional movers and may involve additional handling when they need to be moved between floors. When these items are already positioned on the main exit level prior to moving day, no extra handling is required, which can help avoid unnecessary charges. While most customers rely on our experienced movers for this type of work, some choose to relocate heavy items to the exit floor in advance with additional help to reduce time and cost.

In condominium or elevator-access buildings, we strongly advise reserving sufficient elevator time in advance for both the moving-out and moving-in locations. Proper elevator scheduling helps prevent delays, avoids congestion, and ensures the entire moving process runs smoothly from start to finish.

Tips for
Commercial Moving

Commercial relocations involve a different set of challenges than residential moves, often shaped by fixed schedules, shared building access, and the need to minimize operational downtime.

Because commercial moves usually involve a larger volume of items, it’s important to finalize the overall scope several days ahead of time. Doing so allows the right number of vehicles and movers to be arranged in advance, helping the move proceed smoothly on the scheduled day.

Access conditions at both the current and new locations should also be reviewed early, particularly when loading docks, freight elevators, or building approvals are required, as restricted access windows frequently lead to delays.

To support business continuity, we suggest prioritizing which furniture, equipment, and files need to be relocated first, while less critical items can follow later. Documents, sensitive materials, and essential equipment should be grouped and clearly identified ahead of time to reduce the risk of misplacement.

For offices with IT infrastructure, early coordination around cabling, power readiness, and desk layout at the new space can prevent post-move setup issues.

When feasible, scheduling moves during weekends or outside regular business hours can further reduce disruption to daily operations, and is an option we’re able to accommodate when planning commercial relocations.

Tips for Storage

When preparing items for storage, especially when packing is handled by the customer, it’s important to consider both safety and long-term accessibility.

Items containing liquids, fragile materials, or sensitive contents should be clearly identified and packed separately to reduce the risk of leaks or damage during stacking.

Heavier boxes should always be placed at the bottom, with lighter items on top, to maintain overall stability.

For long-term storage, prolonged stacking pressure can affect cardboard boxes regardless of size order. When boxes of different dimensions are stacked together, uneven weight distribution may cause smaller boxes to collapse entirely, or larger boxes to weaken and cave inward over time as pressure concentrates toward the center. Using boxes of similar size and strength for vertical stacking helps distribute weight more evenly and reduces the risk of deformation during extended storage periods.

Keeping frequently needed items closer to the front, rather than buried deeper in storage, can also make retrieval much easier.

Leaving small air gaps between items helps improve airflow and reduces moisture-related issues.
